Go for the Gold

The Go for the Gold (GFTG) program is a comprehensive health promotion program designed to help faculty and staff lead healthier and more productive lives by identifying health risks and taking action to reduce those risks.

How it works

If you participate in GFTG, and you pay for the VUMC Health Plan, you can receive a pre-tax wellness credit of up to $240 per year. VUMC puts your wellness credit into a health plan account managed by Aetna. The health plan account helps you pay your deductible and coinsurance.

For example, let's say you or your dependent have a doctor's visit. The doctor sends his/her bill to Aetna and Aetna processes the claim. If you owe money, Aetna will automatically use your health plan account to pay the amount, without any action on your part. Once your health plan account is used up, you will start paying to meet the remainder of your deductible.

How to participate

Any VUMC employee can participate in GFTG by logging in to the Health Plus Health Guide. Please note, though, that you need to pay for the VUMC Health Plan to receive the wellness credit. There are three levels of GFTG participation: bronze, silver and gold.

  • If you are paying for the VUMC Health Plan, and you complete the bronze level, you will receive a $120 wellness credit.
  • If you are paying for the VUMC Health Plan, and you complete the silver level, you will receive a $180 wellness credit.
  • If you are paying for the VUMC Health Plan, and you complete the gold level, you will receive a $240 wellness credit.

New Platinum Benefit

The Platinum Benefit is in addition to the $240 Wellness Credit. The Platinum Benefit provides partial reimbursement of membership fees to Medical Center employees who join the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center (VRWC) in 2018. Requirements to receive Platinum Benefit:

  • Earn the Gold level of Go for the Gold by Oct. 31, 2017.
  • Pay for Vanderbilt Health Plan benefits in 2018.
  • Join VRWC. Membership rate is $135 quarterly ($45 per month) as of Sept. 28, 2017.
  • If you attend at least 30 times per quarter in 2018, receive partial reimbursement of $90 quarterly (taxable) in your paycheck.

Timeline

Oct. 31, 2016

  • The deadline to complete GFTG for 2016.
  • If you were hired after Oct. 31, 2016, you can participate in next year's GFTG (deadline of Oct. 31, 2017). Your wellness credit would be applied to your health plan account (if you are paying for the VUMC Health Plan) on Jan. 1, 2018.

Jan. 1, 2017

  • The date your wellness credit for your Oct. 31, 2016 GFTG participation will be applied to your health plan account (if you are paying for the VUMC Health Plan).
    • Your health plan account balance rolls over to the following year, so long as you remain enrolled in the health plan. If you have no medical bills that use up the health plan account, it will continue rolling over from year to year until you reach the maximum rollover amount of $1,000.
