Open Enrollment News for new hires

new hire open enrollment If this is your first Open Enrollment at VUMC, keep reading for important information.

Even though you enrolled in benefits plans when you were hired, you will still need to go through Open Enrollment for 2018 benefits. The benefits you elected when you were first hired will last until Dec. 31, 2017. Your 2018 benefits will begin Jan. 1, 2018.

Open Enrollment is passive this year, meaning the benefits (except for flexible spending accounts) you elected when you were hired will automatically carry over to 2018.

  • If you received the $20 tobacco-free credit for 2017, you will automatically receive the credit for 2018.
  • If you paid the spouse coverage fee of $100 per month in 2017, you will pay the spouse coverage fee of $100 in 2018.
  • Your flexible spending account election will not carry over to 2018. That’s an IRS rule we can’t change. If you want to participate in a FSA for 2018, you will need to enroll on My VUMC Benefits.
  • If you want or need to make changes, you may do so by simply logging into My VUMCBenefits and make those changes between Oct. 3 and Oct. 20.

Remember, if you are a recent new hire, you may have additional enrollment windows to complete after your Open enrollment window for new hiresEnrollment window so be sure to complete all your enrollment windows before their deadlines. You will be prompted to complete your next enrollment window if you have one available.
